Wanneer besin word oor die navorsingsbediening van enige bedryf is dit belangrik dat ‘n aantal faktore in gedagte gehou moet word. Van al die faktore wat daarin ‘n rol speel, word die volgende as besonder belangrik beskou:

• Die belang van die landbou in die volkshuishouding.
• Die belang van die betrokke bedryf of gewas in die nasionale landbou-opset.
• Heersende en verwagte beperkende faktore wat die strewe na optimum produksie en kwaliteit in die wiele ry.
• Knelpuntgerigte navorsing en adviesgewing ten behoewevan die betrokke bedryf.
